How cabbies make their living

a chart showing how cab drivers make money on a day by day basis Alvin Chang of the Boston Globe tracked and documented a taxi driver for about three months and presents the findings in a day-to-day (cool) interactive infographic.

Turns out the average cabbie starts his day $125 in the red; This includes leasing fees and gas. He or she then have to work their way up into profit, at which point the dots (fares) turn blue in Chang’s infographic.

At this rate, he would have made about $21,400 that year, not counting tips. With 15 percent tips, he would’ve made $29,668. The average cabbie makes between $27,000 and $30,000 a year”.
